STREATLEY

The Swan at Streatley

Goring & Streatley

Downstream from our Wallingford location are Goring and Streatley; two villages joined by two bridges over the River Thames.

Goring has the shops, including a fabulous deli named The Goring Grocer, a proper butcher and several tea shops, one of which is Pierreponts, adjacent to the river and opposite what was once the home of pop idol George Michael and a number of excellent pubs. You could walk the Thames path or climb the Berkshire Downs. Nearby you will find the National Trust property Basildon Park where 'Pride and Prejudice' was filmed.

Midsomer Murders and other star detectives

Goring, Streatley, Pangbourne, Wallingford and Henley On Thames have all featured as locations in Midsomer Murders with Inspector Barnaby investigating Causton's less attractive murder scene!

Agatha Christie is buried in nearby Cholsey, herself inspired by the local villages and the River Thames. A short distance away, Inspector Morse drove his Jaguar around Oxfordshire in search of nefarious villains.

PureBoating Logo
We are a self-drive and skippered day boat hire company on one of the most beautiful reaches of the River Thames between Reading (Berkshire) and Wallingford (Oxfordshire). Since opening Pure Boating back in 2015 our electric hire boats have silently graced the river between Wallingford and Streatley.

Our crew are passionate about the River Thames and know the boating environment intimately. They can advise not only on river safety and boat operation but also on where to picnic, good riverside restaurants, where the kingfishers fly and the Loddon lilies grow.
